Our famous Bickington Steam Railway is ready and waiting for new passengers to board and enjoy the sights. The 101/4 inch gauge railway provides transport around the site. “Riverside Station” is adjacent to the main car park at the front of Trago and has 3 tracks which end in a turntable. From here, trains cross a road by an automatic level crossing and run alongside a river, before crossing the river. The railway then joins the original circuit, which loops around and across itself several times. At one point there are 6 parallel tracks, all on different levels.
The second station “Trago Central” has two platforms. After leaving “Trago Central” trains pass over an impressive 23 pier viaduct and pass the workshop & engine shed before heading back to “Riverside station”, where the locomotive is turned and run round the train.
Our Famous Trains
Bickington Steam Railway offers a 25 minute round trip, operating throughout the year at Trago in Newton Abbot. We endeavour to offer a steam-hauled service at weekends as often as possible. We have a locomotive fleet of 5 engines: - BSR 2-6-0 'Alice' - SR&RL 2-6-2 No.24 - L&MVLR No. 1 'E.R.Calthrop' - SMR No. 750 'Blanche of Lancaster' - BR Bo-Bo No. D5910.

The locomotives work hard over some of the steepest gradients in the country for a line of this size. Why not pop down for a steam train ride around our fantastic 21/2 mile railway? The longest miniature railway in Devon!
It’s brilliant value and the perfect way to finish off a day out at Trago. Bargain hunting, lunch and a trip on the steam railway!
